Watermelon by Amelia McQuade

As I indulge to
take my first bite
My teeth break through
leaving joy left to face
It drips
And slips
and makes a mess
But NOTHING will stop me
The juice glides
down my throat with delight
As I notice if oozing down my cheek
As it's calling my name
to take another bite
The smell stuffs my nose
with the summer scent of watermelon
Oh how I wish it was summer
to eat my favorite fruit: WATERMELON

My Home by Marissa Mealey

Deep, blue ocean waves
hitting the soft sand
down below me

I stand high in the sky
my light warns a sailor
if they're getting close to me

Seagulls come up from stealing
little kids' food and fly
all around me

The beach is my home
I am happy here
I am a lighthouse
